These TV Shows Went On Even Without Their Main Stars
It is always nice to see your favorite television shows progress every season, the anticipation to watch it and wait for a new season to come is just a sign that the series has been getting people hooked. One of the most famous series of today are Game of Thrones, Stranger Things and more, especially with the rise of different streaming services, people can now get access to almost every television series they want to watch. There are a lot of shows there including the ones from the past.
This would then remind people that there are some main stars on some of their favorite shows who actually had to leave for different reasons. It may seem so pointless if a protagonist on a television show would actually leave considering the story revolves around them. However, these following shows actually made it through a few more seasons even after one of their main cast left.
Steve Carell as Michael Scott in The Office
The Office
Known as one of the best sitcoms Hollywood has ever seen, The Office aired on NBC for nine incredible seasons from 2005 up to 2013. Consisted of an ensemble cast of Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fishcer, B.J. Novak, Ed Helms, James Spader, and more. Over nine seasons, they have managed to snag four Primetime Emmy Wards, as well as two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Steve Carell.
As one of the main casts, Carnell was obviously one of the reasons why the show was a success. However, in 2010, he revealed that after seven seasons with The Office, he would have to leave and focus on his films. At that time, Carell’s movie, Despicable Me was such a huge success and he was indeed due for two more. The comedian revealed that he signed for seven seasons and he has fulfilled it but he has to let go of Michael Scott. Despite his exit, he believes that even without him, the show would continue to be strong, and it did, but only for two more seasons.
One Three Hill
Another surprising exit was done by not just one of the main stars of this drama series, two of the, actually left around the same time. One Tree Hill actually started in 2003 and has their final season in 2012. It was mainly about two competing half brothers which were portrayed by Chad Michael Murray and James Lafferty. The teen drama series also starred Hilary Burton, Sophia Bush, and Bethany Joy Lenz.
It was in their seventh season when two of their main cast members, Murray and Burton, have decided not to come back for the seventh one. However, on their final season, Murray agreed to come back for a special appearance. The drama series was known for being one of the longest-running television shows from the CW.
Two and A Half Men
Another sitcom lost one of its main protagonists, and that is in 2011, when Charlie Sheen of Two and a Half Men had to enter a drug rehabilitation. The actor also made some disparaging comments to one of the show’s producers, that led to his contract to be terminated.
After the controversy, it was announced that Sheen, despite being the star of the show, wasn’t returning to the series. His character then died and he was replaced by Ashton Kutcher.
The Vampire Diaries
Last but definitely not the least is one of the most popular fantasy drama series of this generation, and that is The Vampire Diaries. With over eight seasons as well as a spin-off, the show was definitely one of the highest-rating fantasy drama series on CW. Its main cast through the entire series are Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Candice King, Kat Graham, Zach Roerig, and Michael Trevino.
While filming the sixth season of the show, two of its main cast announced via Instagram that they have decided to say goodbye to the show, and that is Nina Dobrev and Michael Trevino. Dobrev revealed that she signed the contract for six seasons and wanted to focus on doing films instead. However, despite leaving the show, both Trevino and Dobrev decided to come back and portray their characters once more on the season finale. The final episode of the show in 2017 gained 1.15 million views in the United States.
